Due to the growing popularity of the pergola, thoughts about pergola canopy gazebos have sent many families on a long, sometimes futile search. For what were they searching? Should they have been looking for canopies, pergolas, and gazebos or is one term more favorable? They could also have been looking for a gazebo that contains a pergola style of roof. In order to answer such a question, you will need to first find out what each term stands for.
A pergola is an outdoor structure, one that generally has four to six pillars and an open roof. It is the openness of that roof that creates the need for a canopy. A canopy is a fabric or canvas materials roof that can be used to cover or as a roof for outdoor shelters. Gazebos, unlike pergolas, normally have a solid, unmistakable roof top. A solid roof is largely lacking in a pergola. Sun and rain can easily pass through the open “roof trellis” of a pergola.
Still, one reason that a family might place a pergola in a yard or garden is so that it could be used for entertaining guests. The family might want to have a barbeque, with those at the barbeque encouraged to dine on the pergola. Of course, a pergola that failed to offer any shade would not appear too inviting to guests.
That is why a family with a pergola would have good reason to look for some sort of canopy. Canopies, gazebos, pergolas, and awnings are similar in function since they all provide some shelter to the area directly beneath it. A pergola is however, more intended for decoration unless of course, you add a fabric, canvas, or clear plastic canopy to cover it. Some shelters are called canopies because they consist of a canopy that is supported by beams.
If a homeowner does decide to place a canopy on his or her pergola, then that homeowner must decide exactly where the motor for the canopy is going to go. It normally goes next to one of the pergola pillars. Yet that is not the only decision facing the homeowner that plans to buy a canopy for a pergola.
Unlike a tent shaped canopy or a flat roof canopy, the gazebo canopy contains a peaked roof. Gazebo canopies are unique in design because of the roof design. When a homeowner puts a gazebo on his or her property it is likely because of that unique and attractive design. Gazebos have a whimsical feel to them and offer many possibilities when it comes to use or function.
Pergola canopy gazebos are gazebos that contain a pergola style of roof. Pergola gazebos are becoming popular because many consumers want to experience more of the sun when they are outdoors. Such roof styles are unique but very attractive at the same time. You can purchase them in many different materials as well as colors. It could even be striped or multi-colored.
Gazebos tend to be raised structures. Pergolas have a floor that remains at ground level. When rolled out, the canopy on the pergola remains parallel to that floor. The canopy of a gazebo will have a peak at the center which makes it more decorative and unique.
